Photo of the Week 178

Hello again Friday.  It's once again time.  It's what you've been waiting for.  Here's Cramer Imaging's featured "Photo of the Week" for this week.  Thanks to the cold weather, we've picked something a bit general this week.  It helps to remember that fine art can be more than just seasonal.

Today, we feature a photograph of the Twin Falls Idaho temple, or at least the steeple of the temple.  Most LDS or Mormon temples have a steeple.  Some have more than 1.  The singular steeple, or the most prominent of a grouping, features the golden angel Moroni atop.  This temple is no exception.

I started this photo off by noticing that I had photos of all the southeastern Idaho temples (this even includes Logan Utah) except for 1.  This one missing temple was the Twin Falls temple.  I couldn't leave this hole in my portfolio so I had to get myself a photo of the temple to add.

After the 2 hour drive out to Twin Falls, we found this new temple and started looking for just the right shot to get.  Thanks to its small size, there's only so many different angles you can get.  The temple grounds are also small so there are photography limits there too.

I had wanted to get one of those iconic shots of the temple steeple.  Thanks to this trip to the temple, I now had the opportunity.  This seemed like as good a time as any to go for that telephoto shot and bring the steeple down to earth again.

The trick with this kind of shot is to get everything properly lit against the brightness of the sun in the sky.  This subject was too far away for a flash to do any good.  I did my best and had to make a couple adjustments in Photoshop to brighten areas which were underexposed in the original raw image.

The result was this photo of the Twin Falls temple spire against this bright and cloudy sky.
