A Split Screen video is a video in which multiple videos appear on the screen at the same time, stacked on top of each other.

I’m going to teach you how to edit split screen videos for your next Instagram reel.

Slow-mo videos generally perform the best in such Instagram reel edits. So, if you shoot using your phone, remember to take some slow-mo shots next time.

Or even simple shots can work as well, the main thing is that they should be stable.

In this tutorial, we will be editing the split screen video for Instagram reels in the 9:16 ratio.

All of the editing will be done on the InShot app. If you don’t have it yet, install it right away.

Edit split screen Instagram reels on the InShot app

Step #1: Select the videos

You can create a split screen video edit with 2,3 or 4 video clips.

If you use more than 4 video clips, the clips shown would be too small on the screen.

Since we are editing this video for Instagram reels in the 9:16 ratio, each of your video clips will be horizontal and stacked on top of each other.

You can either choose video clips that are from the same location, on the same theme, of the same person, etc.

There should be a common factor between the videos you select for split-screen Instagram reels.

Step #2: Get inspired

Step #3: Open the Inshot app & the first video clip

Open the Inshot app and select one video out of the ones you’ve selected for the split screen edit.

Set the canvas size as 9:16.

If you crop your video in a 16:9 ratio, your split screen video will have 3 video clips.

Zoom in and position the video at the top. Make sure the video is placed properly so that there are no borders visible on the edges.

In order to use 4 videos, use the 2.35:1 crop ratio.

Step #4: Add more video clips – create a split screen!

Click on the icon that says PIP. It will open up your phone’s gallery. Select the video you want to add.

Crop this video in the same ratio in which you cropped the previous video.

Keep on repeating this step- PIP > select video > crop it > position it till you’ve added all of the clips to create a split screen Instagram reel.

Seen the screenshot above. I have done this step 4 times to create a split screen with 4 video clips.

The first video is the primary video that I opened up in the InShot app.

The rest of the 3 videos were added using the PIP feature.

And that’s it! Easy peasy.
