LATEST Instagram Reels Template Feature: My Thoughts On It

Recently, Instagram has begun testing a new Instagram Reels Template feature.

A new Instagram super sync feature was also introduced a while back. But after trying out the feature a couple of times, the edit is not on-point every time.

If you’re one of the lucky ones who have received it, as I have, I’m going to explain the feature in the simplest way in this post.

Currently, this feature is available to a small group of creators.

How the Instagram reels template feature works

This feature is available only on the reels which have been edited on the Instagram app itself.

The option to use a template will not be available on Instagram Reels that have been edited on third-party video editing apps like InShot, VN, etc.

A small heading titled – ‘use template’ along with a camera icon will show up above the user’s Instagram handle.

(Follow the yellow arrow in the above screenshot)

All you’ve to do is click on this button and on the next screen you will see the duration of each small video clip in the reel video. (See the screenshot below)

Click on ‘add media’ and select multiple videos from your phone’s gallery and click on ‘Next’.

These clips will be added to the Instagram reels template in the same order in which you selected the videos.

A similar feature has been available on TikTok for quite some time. This feel like another attempt to get users to shift from TikTok to Instagram.

My thoughts on the Instagram reels template feature

Although the feature is, no doubt, useful to many budding creators who want to re-create popular reels, I feel it’s a little unfair to the original creators who spent their time and efforts editing their Instagram reels.

It takes a considerable amount of time to add clips and edit them on beats when you’re editing them on the Instagram app itself.

And knowing that someone else can just click on a button that says ‘use template’ and copy the entire thing in a second feels a bit unfair.

I think that if the original reel’s creator’s username gets embedded into the new reels created by users using the template feature, it would be a fair option.

I miss the times when good-old-static posts got good organic reach and engagement on the Instagram platform.
