CHAPTER 265 – Wishes Come True

It was another day at the Santa Clara County animal shelter. Daffodil stared through the bars of her kennel – wishing for a home. A nice couple had come to visit her over the weekend and spent a couple of hours with her. She thought, “This might be it!” But her hopes were dashed when they left without her. She wanted to cry.

Just then, she heard people approaching. The woman said, “There’s Daffodil!” They came straight to her kennel, not even pausing to look at any of the other rabbits. The man looked in and said, “Hi sweetie! Guess what? This is your lucky day. You’re going home!” Dad opened the kennel door. He had been warned that she was exhibiting cage aggression. He slowly reached out his hand and asked for permission to pet. “May I pet you?” he asked.

Daffodil couldn’t quite place it, but there was something familiar about this man – like she had met him before. Daffodil granted him permission and lowered her head to let him pet her. Dad pet her for a bit and then said, “I’m going to pick you up now, OK? Don’t freak out.” He pressed his hands against her to give her some warning and made eye contact. She didn’t resist. Gently, he lifted her into his arms. She didn’t struggle. She snuggled up against him. Something told her she could trust him.

As Krickett filled out the paperwork, Dad cuddled Daffodil against him and petted her. She relaxed in his arms. Dad reassured her, “I’m sorry this took so long, but it will be worth the wait. You’re going to a very good home.” They strolled up to the front desk to turn in the paperwork.

Once they were done, Dad asked Krickett, “Would you like a tour of the facility? It’s a really nice place!” Krickett agreed, so they walked towards the back. Suddenly, Daffodil began to panic and struggle, thinking, “No! Please don’t take me back! I don’t want to go back in there!” Dad held on to her firmly and reassured her, “Don’t worry, sweetheart. We’re not taking you back. It’s OK! Relax.” Once they passed the kennel area, Daffodil calmed down.

It wasn’t until she was in her carrier in the back seat of the car that Daffodil believed her wish was coming true. “It’s really happening! I’m leaving!” she thought.

That night, as she explored her new home, Daffodil couldn’t help herself. She was SO happy. She just binkied over and over. Krickett just giggled as she watched. There was nothing more rewarding for a bunny person than being able to make a bunny so happy.

Daffodil's wish to find a loving forever home comes true.
