The explosion of a Soviet-era dam has caused the water levels in Nova Kakhovka, a city in southern Ukraine, to keep rising. Early this morning, Mayor Volodymyr warned that playgrounds, cafes, and summer theatres are submerged. News over social media platforms about the drowning of zoo animals started circulating in large amounts. The footage posted by  Ukrainian officials showcased the rising water in the Kazkova Dibrova Zoo.

Thousands of residents in the Russian-occupied Kherson region were instructed to leave while some animals were left stranded. In another video, a police officer is shown rescuing a dog from rising flood water. Swimming swans were also photographed near the administrative hub of the city. Residents were alerted not to leave their pets in cages during an emergency evacuation.

Ukraine asserted that the occupying forces intentionally targeted the dam to commit a crime of war. Concurrently Russian officials provided various explanations some blamed the Ukrainian bombardment wholesomely, while others claimed that the dam burst out of its own.
