2 Men and Dog Found Safe on a Missing Sailboat in the Atlantic

On Tuesday, two men and a dog were rescued from a sailboat without energy or fuel over 200 miles off Delaware, the US Coast Guard informed. The survivors were found ten days after friends and families had last heard from them.

Hyde and Ditomasso waved their arms to reach out to the crew of the Silver Muna tanker ship off Delaware’s Coast, the Coast Guard noted. But, unfortunately, no fuel or power had rendered the sailboat’s radios and navigation equipment inoperable.

On Sunday, The Coast Guard launched a search after being notified that the sailors were overdue. The investigation stretched from Florida to New Jersey, the agency noted.

In a news conference Wednesday, Hyde said, “And they found us, and they realized that we were on board and waving and stuff like that. Because by that time my masts were down, all systems were mute. We were just kind of hanging out in the boat…He backed up, he saw us, and he came around, and he picked us up. It was amazing. It’s like finding a needle in a haystack in this situation.”

Ditomasso notified that the due were left without drinking water for the final two days before being rescued. Instead, he added that they counted on extracting water from beans they had aboard.

Ditomasso told reporters, “And I bought these beans, and the best part about the beans, they have water in them. They were soaked in water. And we were taking sips at a time.”
