As people intend to fly out this festive season in droves, Ahmedabad’s Dog Boarding centres are inundated with calls, queries, and bookings for Diwali week. From October 30 to November 10, and in some cases until November 14, these centres were already at 80 percent capacity.

An Ahmedabad-based professional has two pet dogs, and keeping them at home around Diwali is a nightmare because both of her pets are unable to cope with the sound of loud fireworks. So they typically travel a day or two before Diwali and check the dogs into a Boarding centres outside the busy city of  Ahmedabad, where the noise level is lower.

The proprietor of a dog boarding facility has already scheduled slots for 25 dogs and is now turning down inquiries because they are fully filled.

Depending on the size and breed of the dog, boarding centres charge between Rs 500 and Rs 1,250 a night per dog. The larger and more exotic canines typically charged the most, such as St Bernard, Great Dane, and German Shepherd.

The holidays of Diwali and Christmas are the busiest times of the year for dog boarding facilities, and reservations are often made months in advance. The boarding facilities in Ahmedabad are used by individuals from all over the country, including Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Bhuj, Gandhidham, Anand, and Nadiad. Because there are only a few of these facilities in the city, demand is usually great.

Others who aren’t traveling are resorting to alternative methods to keep their dogs calm. For example, there are various white noise playlists available on the internet. This greatly reduces the amount of outside noise. In addition, people normally move away from the busy city life around this time to avoid the noise; however, many people are unable to leave the city this year owing to hectic work schedules and therefore must board their pets in a facility for the time being.
