3 Tips for Keeping Dogs Quiet

Tags: bark dog bark

Do you find that your furry friend is a little too vocal? Perhaps there's a new baby in the house or you have had a neighbor mention something. Regardless of what the reason is, we are here to help you with a solution for keeping your dogs quieter!

Step 1 – Don't yell at them! When you yell, they mimic your sounds – this is why they will bark back. Instead firmly say "no bark" and then go about your business. Most times dogs are barking it is for attention – you have to ignore it!

Step 2 – Remove the barking triggers! Figure out what is causing your dog to bark and seek to reduce or eliminate it. Is your dog territorial and barks only when they see someone through the window? Close the blinds! Does your dog bark for no reason? Chances are they are bored and need attention and time to play. Make sure your dog is getting enough outside time and exercise!

Step 3 – Does your dog bark in response to other dogs? This one will be harder to control but one way to address this is to speak to your neighbors about what is triggering their dog to bark. If the dog is friendly, suggest a playdate to get the two pups energy out!
