Long hair Cat breeds have always had a hold on Cat lovers, it's tough not to appreciate all that fluff. Similarities of the Siberian Cat and other long hair breeds like the Norwegian Forest can often be confusing— but that isn't the only reason why breed standards of the Siberian isn't the same universally.

Renowned as the national Cat of Russia, Siberian Cats are a naturally cultivated breed, adapted with its habitat, and unaffected by other breeds or species. Efficient Rat-hunters to farmers and shop-owners, the Siberian Cat went on to be developed and selectively bred as an official Cat breed of its own, with standards derived from 1980s. As an ancient Cat breed, Siberian Cats are also believed to be the ancestral root to most modern Cat breeds with long hair. The first mention of a Siberian Cat was in a book written by Harrison Wier— this book housed information of earliest Cat shows in England which dated from 1871.

Although popularity of Siberian Cats rose rapidly, the costly importation of one from Russia caused rarity of this breed in other countires. Because each Siberian Cat club in Russia had its own standards, folks in other countires were soon confused— depending on which part of Russia a Siberian Cat was from, physiques varied slightly. Its close similarities with the Norwegian Forest Cat has led many to confirm that these two breeds are indeed related. 

Fun Fact #1      The Siberian Cat is also known as Siberian Forest Cat, Moscow Semi-longhair and Siberian for short.

Size — This is a strong-built medium to large sized Cat weighing from 3.6 to 7.8kgs. With muscular hindquarters, Siberians are known to be excellent jumpers with more robust bodies than most Cat breeds.

Features — Prepare to be mezmerized by large round eyes on this triple-coat-floofy kitty. Pair those with round paws and a soft, full tail, there is an overall cuteness you just can't deny. 

Colours — A myriad of variations are available for Siberian Cats, such as Lynx-point, Seal-point, Tabby, Solid, Bi-colour, Mackerel, and Torbie. Colours include Red, Blue, Whitem Golden, Black, and Creme.

Fun Fact #3      The adorable and unique markings on certain Siberian faces is referred to as  Neva Masquerade.

Known for its glossy nature that deters matting and tangling, the triple-coat-floof of a Siberian Cat isn't difficult to maintain. It does however, require consistency with regards to brushing and combing— keep this to a minimum of once or twice a week. Watch out for shedding periods and especially heavy ones during hot seasons! Increase the number of times you brush per week to speed things up a little.
