New Year’s Resolutions

It’s not quite February, so I’m just under the wire for New Year’s resolutions. Instead of making resolutions for myself, I’m making resolutions for this year with the Poms! These are things I promise them for 2018.

img_2892Oliver- oh, Oliver.  This year I resolve to double my efforts in working on socializing Oliver. He has come SO FAR.  So far. But he still has a long way to go. Much of Oliver’s history is a mystery to us- we adopted him at 11 months old.  He was an owner relinquishment to the rescue we work with that we ended up foster failing. That family had adopted him from a shelter. From his shelter paperwork it looks as though he was originally from a pet store. So, in the first 11 months of Oliver’s life- the time when socialization is the MOST important- he had been passed around and passed around.  This year I will double my efforts in socializing him. I’ll resolve to have clickers everywhere I am and utilize every opportunity I can to socialize Oliver under his threshold.

Parker-my wild old man! This June Parker will be 13.  My resolution is to enjoy EVERY img_2897SINGLE MOMENT I have with Parker.  He’s a happy, healthy, super spunky dude.  But he’s also going to be a teenager this year.  I would be silly if I didn’t realize that every moment I have with him is an absolute gift. When he wants attention I will put my phone away, push aside the computer and rub his belly.  Give him high-5’s when he smacks me for attention.  I will continue to appreciate every moment with my Pirate Pom I am afforded!

img_2898Rachel- my sweet girl.  Sometimes it feels like she gets the short end of the stick because Parker and Oliver require so much attention or exercise.  She’s an easy keeper.  Happy with toys to play with and a lap to hang out on.  This year I’ll focus on more one-on-one Rachel only time. Walks with unlimited sniff time, endless fetch on-demand, solo trips to Tastee Freeze for ice cream.

This year will be the year of quality time with all 3 of them. So far I’m doing pretty well- in fact this post has taken a lot longer to write than it should have because of many fetch and belly rub interruptions! What are your New Year’s resolutions for your dogs?
