The Pros and Cons of Being Single

Nowadays, being in a Relationship is a big deal, and when you’re not with one, you’ll surely be laughed at. The word “Single” is used for labeling individuals who are not in a relationship, and with this, it has a negative impression from most of us. But hey! Who knows what this “single” word truly brings. Read this and maybe you’ll have a change of heart.

Being single is never easy especially when you need someone to lean on, or a shoulder to cry on when you cannot carry the load anymore. Some people tend to say that it’s okay, you have your Family, friends or even stranger to talk to, but the thing they don’t understand is that the feeling of being loved by family and friends are way different from a special someone. Yes, your family and friends are there for you to support and give you attention, more of happiness that usually they do because they love you. But how about having someone who cares for you and spend time just to be with you, sounds romantic, right? Sometimes excitement is the feeling that we don’t feel from our family that only our special someone can bring us. So we can say that Philia (a love for a family and friend) is much better when we also have Eros (a romantic love).

But did you know that being single has also a good thing, that is better than in a relationship? Just imagine,

  • you can enjoy your life, no one will stop you from the things you want to do
  • no one will stop you where you want to go
  • no arguments
  • no heartaches
  • a quality time for yourself family & friends
  • and you will absolutely save more money.

Sometimes, when you are in a relationship your partner tend to stop you from the things you want to do, you need to ask him/her first if it’s okay to do this or to do that. For example:

  1. You want to go shopping, either he will not allow you because he’s not with you or you spend too much.
  2. When you want to go travel, you can’t go because he is worried about you, and he forbids you from leaving especially when you are traveling without him.
  3. When you go home late because you spend some time with your friends or friends of friends, your partner is persistent in asking questions that make you annoyed and can lead to an argument.

When you are single;

  • You can go shopping freely whenever or whatever you want to buy for yourself yet not costly because you don’t have to buy some stuff for your partner, you already save some money if you’re a practical person.
  • You can travel anywhere without being guilty of not bringing your partner with you.
  • You don’t have to explain why you came home late, and don’t have to hide the fact that you’re hanging out with your friends. You can spend as much time as you want without feeling guilty.
  • You can focus more on your career that can inspire you to make more quality works and pursue your job. Who knows it can result in you getting a higher position, a promotion!

Though being single has an advantage and disadvantage, still, it is up to the person how will they enjoy and make sense of it.
