Most Americans who swore they’d move abroad if Donald Trump was elected president probably won’t follow through with that threat.

But college-bound students who are still reeling from the outcome of the November election can take out federal student loans to earn a degree from one of 400 eligible universities in 38 countries outside the U.S.

That’s right, Uncle Sam will lend you money to earn your college degree in neighboring countries like Canada and Mexico, or overseas destinations like England, Ireland, Australia, Germany, Japan, Israel, and Russia.

International schools don’t participate in the U.S. Department of Education’s grant programs, so federal Pell Grants aren’t an option. But the schools below are eligible to accept Americans who are taking out federal student loans to pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees.

The rules, loan limits and application process work pretty much the way they do for students attending eligible U.S. schools. The annual limit for direct subsidized and unsubsidized loans can be as little as $5,500 to as much as $20,500, depending on factors such as whether you’re a dependent of your parents or enrolled in graduate school. Students and their parents can also take out PLUS loans to attend the schools below.

Once you’re approved, your loan funds are electronically transmitted from the U.S. Treasury to the international school’s designated bank. After the school takes out tuition, fees, and other expenses you owe, any money left over goes to you.

The U.S. Department of Education offers the following tips to Americans considering getting their degree abroad:

Check the website of schools you’re interested to verify the program you’re interested in is available, what the school will cost, its enrollment policies, and what resources it offers international students.
Make a checklist to track hoops you may need to jump through: You may need to obtain a passport and visa, fill out housing forms, and register with the police in the country you’ll be moving to.
Fill out your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as possible. The FAFSA is now available on Oct. 1 for attendance that begins after July 1 of the following year. When you fill out the FAFSA, list the Federal School Code of the school you plan to attend.
Make sure the school you plan to attend has your FAFSA information — international schools can access your FAFSA information electronically.
Find out who will be processing your financial aid at the school you plan to attend, and make sure you have their email address so you can contact them if you have questions.

The list of international schools eligible to receive federal student loan funds is current as of November, 2016. The list is updated quarterly by the Department of Education and can be downloaded from the Office of Federal Student Aid website.
