Simple Ways to Save More Money on Groceries

Unless you order take-out for every meal, Grocery shopping is a necessity. However, getting groceries each week can be expensive, especially if you’re buying them for a family of four or more. Not to worry, as there are some very simple ways you can save Money when you’re out shopping.

Opt for Off-Brand

While certain brands will certainly make a difference in the quality of certain products, others only serve to increase the cost of an item. This leads many to overspend on items that they could otherwise save money on. For instance, the off-brand cottage cheese may not taste as good as the Prarie Farms does, and it would make sense to purchase the one that you like best. In other cases, the name-brand ketchup may be indiscernible from the off-brand. Swallow your pride and get the cheaper option.

Create a Budget

If you’re not one for lists, creating a Budget might suit you a little better. This will allow you the freedom to pick up whatever you want—bread, milk, a gallon of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream—without spending too much. Your budget will depend on how many people are in your family: do you live alone? With a partner? A whole family? To get an accurate budget, figure out the cost of all the necessities and see what the total is. If you are comfortable spending a slight bit more, add an extra ten or twenty dollars for things that you don’t necessarily need, but would be nice to have. As long as you can stick to the budget, you’ll be good to go.

Stick to a List

How often when you go shopping do you mindlessly grab anything that looks good and toss it into your cart? Don’t worry, we’re the same way. But if you’re wanting to save money on groceries, it helps to create a list beforehand. This way you will only write down things that you know you need without the temptations of colorful cereal boxes or Oreos staring you down the whole time. However, the hard part comes when you actually get to the store. This will be the test of whether or not you have the willpower to stick to the list you’ve created. If you can manage to do so, you’ll soon begin to notice your grocery bill begin to drop.

Savings You Can’t Ignore

If you’re in desperate need of some simple ways to reduce the cost of your grocery bill, hopefully, these tips can help you out. With all the walking around the store, you’re sure to be doing, you’ll likely need to sift through a bunion blog or two and maybe even add cushioned insoles onto your grocery list. But don’t let that stop you from marching through the aisles of your local grocery store and continuing to rack up the savings in the process!
