Review: reverse braided buns with Annie’s Hair Boutique

A couple of weeks ago I decided to treat myself to a new look. My friend and ex-colleague, Ann-Marie of Annie’s Hair Boutique (@ann_marie_25) got in touch with me about her mobile hair services. I hadn’t realised that she offered braiding services so I jumped at the chance of recreating a recent look that I fell in love with – reverse braids!

I loved the buns version because I think it looks cute but still modern and stylish. Ann-Marie came round Saturday morning and was very prompt. She took about 10 minutes to set up and got to work with my hair. She quickly tonged my hair to get it into a workable condition – I had just quickly washed and blowdried my hair a couple of hours before she came so it was quite frizzy and fluffy. A bit of heat from the hair tongs seemed to have done the trick and my hair behaved itself.

The curls looked amazing and would’ve been perfect for a special occasion. Unfortunately I wasn’t going anywhere til the evening and wanted a more practical look than a glamorous one so I decided to stick with having my braids. Before Ann-Marie started on the braids, she brushed out the curls and the hair was still looking amazing.

Brushed out curls catching all the light 🙂

I do like to wear my hair wavy when I do actually have it done. I’m experimenting a bit more with what I can do with my hair now. Because it gets frizzy on the first day I wash it I just find it so much easier and more practical to have it up in a ponytail or high bun aka ‘mum bun’.

The Outcome
The braided bun took Ann-Marie about 30 mins max to do and that’s only because it required some pinning to hold the buns in place. The braiding itself look 5 minutes on each side and looked amazing. The kids were well behaved around Ann-Marie and I was very glad because they can be a handful. LO really warmed up to Ann-Marie and was even asking when she’ll be back again to see us. 🙂

A cheeky selfie with the lovely lady

Please excuse the state of my living room/kitchen. It looks like a bomb has gone off but unfortunately for me, that’s a permanent look!

Annie’s Hair Boutique is a London-based mobile service so if you live within the M25, Ann-Marie can get to you as early or as late as you need (of course, you’d have to set a time with her as her appointment diary does fill up pretty quickly with editorial and press shoots!). Ann-Marie offers blowdries including a breakfast blowdry where she will bring you a hot coffee or matcha latte to your front door (bliss!) as well as braiding services, up-do’s, bridal hair which includes a hair consultation, and extensions. You can also hire her for events and press/editorial work, just send her a quick message.
