7 Tips For A Perfect Blog Post

Honestly? You don’t need 10 billion different ways to write a perfect blog post. You really only need the 7 tips I give you below.

When you are done reading these steps, you will be ready to create and share the perfect blog post every time.

1. Create Valuable Content

I don’t care who you are, what you do or what you know. If your post’s content doesn’t provide value to your Readers, you are wasting your time (and theirs too).

Good bloggers care about the needs of their readers and cater their content to addressing those needs every time. Have you ever noticed some bloggers never stop talking about themselves? How did it make you feel?

Sadly, I’ve been in the same situation as you. I’ve landed on what I thought was a great post to help me solve a problem only to see that the post was about the blogger.

The number one way to create a perfect blog post is to create content that is valuable to your readers. Miss this step, and you risk losing your reader forever.

Part of creating valuable content is making sure spelling and grammar are correct. I personally use and recommend Grammarly to perform my spelling and grammar checks on every post in addition to the WordPress and Microsoft Word spell checkers.

2. Write a Catchy Headline

What makes you click on a post? The headline, right? Create a catchy headline that makes it irresistible for your readers to ignore.

Take into consideration these tips when creating your blog’s headline:

  • Incorporate SEO keywords
  • Make it short and clear
  • Research similar post headlines to see what works best
  • Use exciting language

Which post headline are you more likely to click on when quickly browsing search results? How to earn a lot of money? or How to earn $1 million in 30 days? I’m guessing the 2nd one, right?

3. Pay Attention to SEO

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is critical in driving consistent organic traffic to your site.

SEO is important simply because there are thousands of bloggers writing similar content. The ones who use the best keywords and optimize their posts the best will usually get driven up to the top of the search results.

I use the Yoast SEO plugin for WordPress to optimize each post. This is a free plugin that has become invaluable to my organic search traffic.

4. Organize Your Talking Points

Perfect blog posts are organized from top to bottom. The best way to organize your points is to brainstorm the top 3-5 you want to talk about and then write them out in an outline.

Today’s post is a good example of how I had to organize my main talking points. I could have picked 10-15 steps to creating a perfect blog post, but I stuck with my top 7.

I love to write out my thoughts in a short brainstorming session because I can see my post take shape with this technique. I don’t know about you, but my brain moves at a mile a minute, and it’s sometimes really hard to narrow my ideas down to a few main bullets.

Organizing my talking points also helps me when I get ready to record a video that’s related to the blog post. I can pick out the points easily and tie it all into a neatly wrapped video.

5. Write at least 1,000 words

My general rule is to make each blog post at least 1,000 words. Search engines love longer, more in-depth content, and generally rank them higher than shorter posts.

Any of my drafts that don’t hit the 1,000 word mark usually end up staying in my drafts folder until I can come back to add to them.

Is there a magical word length to a blog post? I don’t think there’s a true answer to that question. However, the more in-depth content you include in your post, the more value search engines will identify in your content.

6. Write an amazing call-to-action

What do you want your readers to do after reading your post? You’ve spent so much time shaping your post into the perfect post for your readers. Don’t leave them hanging!

The best bloggers ALWAYS end on a high note with a creative call-to-action. Be crystal clear on what type of action you want your readers to take after reading your post.

Common calls to action include:

  • Subscribing to your blog
  • Following your social media accounts
  • Downloading a freebie
  • Sharing your post

Call-to-action possibilities are endless, so there really is no excuse for leaving your readers hanging.

7. Be Genuine

There’s nothing I can’t stand more than reading a blog post where you can tell the blogger’s priority is to sell you something. It’s very annoying, especially when you are searching for information.

Am I saying never promote your affiliate links or products on your blog? Absolutely not. But, do so in a way that doesn’t diminish your readers’ trust in what you have to say and offer.

The perfect blog post reflects the writer’s genuine feelings towards the topic he or she is writing about. The more genuine you are in your blogging, the more trust you will build with your readers.
