Visme Review: Online Visual Presentation Application

Hey guys and gals! I’m back with another product review. Is finding a high-quality visual design solution for your website or blog time-consuming, frustrating and expensive? Are you stuck using basic tools that limit your creativity and hamper the growth of your blog?

I create a blog header, edit an image or post some type of visual graphic to social media every day. I place a lot of attention on the quality of my visual items because I want my site to appear professional at all times. Using poor quality images isn’t in my business plan, nor is it something I want to settle for because other options are too expensive.

I’ve used Photoshop, Canva and PicMonkey over the past few years. Each program provides a certain service I need to make my visuals appealing and professional. Today, I’m reviewing another online visual presentation application called Visme. Let’s take a deeper look into everything it offers.

My Experience Using Visme

Visme is easy to use right from the start. After registering for my account, I had immediate access to all the available features in the Complete plan. I like having the choice to either register with my email address or connect with Facebook.

The first place I was taken upon logging into Visme was the dashboard. The dashboard is the starting point to create new projects, manage existing projects or adjust administrative options, such as add or remove users.

I love the dashboard’s layout. It’s clean, simple and user-friendly. Simply select from one of the creative options at the top and choose one of the available Templates to start your project.

To test ease of use, quality and satisfaction, I created several different projects in Visme. I’ll take you through the ones I tried, how to create/customize them and give you my overall opinion.

Reports and eBooks

The first project I created in Visme was my How to Create a Profitable Blog eBook. I’ve been working on the eBook for over a year, but to date it had only been in Microsoft Word format. I was very excited to see what Visme could offer me in terms of creativity, quality and value.

When I clicked on the “Reports and eBooks” graphic to start my project, a host of templates popped up at the bottom of the page. While I was expecting to find several eBook templates, I was disappointed to only find survey and graph templates. I had to take one of the existing survey templates and customize it on my own to make it fit my eBook layout.

I was able to create my eBook, and am now in the final editing stages before I publish/sell it. My recommendation to Visme will be to add eBook templates to the repository of templates they offer in this section. Aside from the non-existence of those templates, customizing one of the stock templates was very easy and didn’t take a lot of time.

Overall Rating for Reports and eBooks: 7/10

Web Graphics

Other than the eBook, the majority of creative I made with Visme were web graphics. I made several blog headers to use as featured images. I am very impressed with the number of templates and available customization options available – the options are practically endless if you use your own images and mix up the fonts/colors. There are several size options for web graphics depending on which graphic you choose. I worked with the large (800 x 1200px) graphic size to create my blog headers.

Here is one of the headers I created using Visme:

Overall Rating for Web Graphics: 8/10

Infographics

I haven’t created very many infographics in the past, but I recently read on another blog that they can be good sources of traffic. I took a recent post, 10 Ways You Are Destroying Your Blog, and turned it into an infographic. Transforming a prebuilt template into my own creation was very easy, and took me less than 25 minutes start to finish. Take a look at the final result!

Overall Rating for Infographics: 8/10

Overall Opinion

Ease of Use: 7/10

  • Creating new projects is incredibly simple. Simply click on the project type, select a template and then start your work.
  • Autosave is a great feature.
  • The project editor is simple and requires no coding. Click on what you want, drag and drop, customize and you’re done.
  • Sharing a project is easy. I love the multiple options it boasts, such as PDF, JPG, HTML5.
  • Inserting text objects is a pain. I was unable to insert the object and drag both it and the text at the same time. I had to drag the object first, then move the text.

Price: 5/10

  • Canva offers a lot more options in its free version than Visme does with the paid Complete plan.
  • Affordable for those with limited budget.

Value: 5/10

  • Not as many templates and projects with the Basic plan. Canva offers more.
  • Doesn’t have a full photo editing feature like Canva or Photoshop.
  • Reports & eBooks options misleading. No eBook templates available.
  • Limited fonts.

Final Rating: 6/10

I loved trying out Visme. I found it to have a good array of visual marketing options that make my job a little easier. I didn’t have to spend hours figuring out how to get a project started and finished. Actually, I had my first visual created in less than 10 minutes, and most of that time was me trying pick out fonts, colors and icons.

Unfortunately, I feel that Visme lacks in comparison to Canva. I’ve used Canva for years because of the wide range of options it offers in its free account. It doesn’t make business sense for me to pay for what I can already get for free. But, this doesn’t mean it can’t be one of the useful tools in my visual design repertoire. If you are one to create a lot of headers or infographics, Visme is solid in those areas. You can always stick with the Basic or Standard accounts and save money.

There is a spelling error on the plan options screen under the “Business” tab. The word “storage” is spelled as “stroage.”

I do recommend Visme for quick projects. If you aren’t looking for complicated, Visme is the right application for you. I’m a long-time Photoshop and Canva user, so it’s very difficult for me to cut ties with those applications unless I find something that offers the same value for equal or lesser price. Visme isn’t there for me yet, but could be in the future.

Many thanks to the wonderful folks at Visme for giving me complimentary access to the Complete plan to test and review on my blog. I have enjoyed my experience and look forward to future improvements.
