DIY Stick Figure Halloween Costume

Are you looking for a fun and easy family costume idea for Halloween? My daughter loves drawing stick figures and thought this would be so funny for our family to wear. Here’s how easy it is to make this DIY stick Figure Halloween Costume.

What You’ll Need

The best part about this DIY costume is most of the supplies are probably already sitting at your house. Here’s what you’ll need to make this Stick Figure Halloween costume.

• Black (or white) long sleeve shirt and pants for each family member
• White (or black) electrical tape
• Scissors
• Black (or white) foam board
• Dowel Rods
• Razor Knife
• Laffy Taffy (to snack on while you craft)

Originally, I wanted to use white clothing and black tape, but it was difficult to find white pants and white long sleeve shirts for all of us, so I opted for black instead. We already had black pants and shirts at home so it was a better fit! Just make sure to get tape and poster board in coordinating colors for whichever clothing color you choose. Electrical Tape is also stretchy and shapes well when making these costumes. In addition, the width is perfect for this project. Try to stay away from thicker tape sizes to get the look right.

How to Make DIY Stick Figure Halloween Costume

First, start by sketching out the stick figures you want to make. Having an image to reference is helpful in creating your costume masterpiece. Second, lay out all of the clothing you plan to use. Carefully place the tape on the clothing in the shape of the “stick figure” from your drawing.

I highly recommend having a yummy snack handy while you craft to help you get in the Halloween spirit. The delicious fruity flavors of Laffy Taffy remind me of my childhood and were the perfect snack while making these Diy Stick Figure costumes.

Next, it’s time to make the heads. I used a variety of bowls and a pencil to trace a circle onto the foam board. Then, I added fun details like the pigtails, ponytail, hair bow, tiara, etc to add a little more character to each head. Using a razor knife, I carefully cut out the overall shape of each head. Finally, I added the white tape around the edges to bring the image to life.

For older kids, I would recommend adding twine through holes in the side of the face to tie on for hands free use. My girls are both little and don’t like masks so instead, I glued a dowel rod to the center of the head so they could easily hold it up to their face.
