40 Disney Family Halloween Costume Ideas

Whether you’re attending Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party or planning family costumes for trick or treating festivities, here are 40 of my favorite Disney Family Halloween Costume Ideas.

Villains

It’s good to be bad, especially for Halloween! This year for Mickey’s Not So Scary, my family went as villains and it was so much fun. There are lots of villainous characters to choose from., Hades, the Evil Queen, Cruella, Ursula, Maleficent, Queen of Hearts are just a few favorites.

Toy Story

The options for this theme are to infinity and beyond! This is a great family costume idea for a larger group with a mix of girls and guys. My sister in love always does awesome themed costumes for her family. Last year, their costumes were from Toy Story and everything with DIY. It was adorable!

The Incredibles

With two awesome movies, The Incredibles are a great family costume idea for Halloween, especially if you have a little baby. Mr, Mrs, Violet, Dash, Jack Jack, Frozone and more allow for plenty of costume opportunities. See the best no-sew Eda Mode costume from HighlightsAlongTheWay.com. Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid is full of fun characters for Halloween costumes. Ariel, Eric, Ursula, Flounder, and Sebastian are the most iconic characters. My mom was Ursula for Mickey’s Not So Scary and made her tentacles from foam pool noodles, black socks from the Dollar Tree and painted bubble wrap.

Alice in Wonderland

Wonderland offers several frightfully fun costume options for a family of any size. From Alice to the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat to the Queen of Hearts, this theme is perfect for your Halloween festivities.

Peter Pan

Peter Pan is a classic movie and has LOTS of Disney Halloween Costume ideas! From the obvious like Peter, Wendy and Tinkerbell, to the more obscure like the Lost Boys, a mermaid or crocodile, the possibilities are endless. This easy tutorial from HighlightsAlongTheWay.com shows how you can make these adorable Peter and Wendy costumes yourself.

101 Dalmatians

This is such an easy costume to throw together in a pinch. With a little hair spray and some fur, one family member can be Cruella while everyone else just needs white and a few Dalmatian spots. I found these cute dresses at Walmart and purchased the red sparkly dog collars from the Dollar Tree. BONUS these will work for Cow Appreciation Day at Chick-fil-A too. Emperor’s New Groove

This awesome costume compilation of Kronk, Yzma and Kronk’s shoulder angel and devil from WDWbound.com is absolutely adorable and perfect for a family of four.

Frozen

I love this fantastic Frozen themed no sew costume from LipglossandCrayons.com. Mix in a Hans, Olaf, Kristoff and a few trolls and it’s the perfect family costume theme for this Halloween.

Avengers

This costume theme is perfect for older kids, though they make costumes for superheroes of every size. This Captain America shield is just a painted plastic snow sled, and Iron Man is made from foam garage floor mats, talk about DIY.

Tangled

Halloween is the BEST DAY EVER and so are these costumes from MamasGeeky.com. Rapunzel, Flynn, Pascal, and Mother Gothel make perfect costumes for a family of four.

Wreck it Ralph

With Wreck it Ralph 2 coming out this fall, this costume theme is sure to be a hit! I love these Florida weather friendly DIY themed costumes. See the full tutorial from RaisingWhasians.com.

Mary Poppins

This theme is practically perfect in every way. Mary Poppins is full of adorable characters to dress up as for Halloween. I just love the little penguin in this family photo from highlightsalongtheway.com.

Tinkerbell and friends

Tinkerbell has a whole line of movies and several fairy friends. With a different fairy for every element and even a few boy fairies too, this is a flitterific theme the whole family can get on board with.

Monsters Inc

This was our Halloween costume from last year. I purchased the Sully onesie for myself. Sewed the Boo costume with some leftover purple sequin fabric and made the Mike costume out of a large green t-shirt to tie to my baby carrier.

Inside Out

Inside Out is such an easy family costume theme. With a few colorful accessories and some temporary hair spray paint, it’s simple to bring these characters to life for Halloween night.

Star Wars

As the Star Wars franchise grows so do the costume possibilities. There’s a whole galaxy of costume options out there like the Han Solo, Rey, Leia and BB-8 from wdwbound.com.

Descendants

So many ways to be wicked, and SO many fun costume ideas can be found in the Descendants movies. These villainous offspring are super trendy and make it really easy to pair parent/child costumes together. These outfits were put together with thrift store finds and Mal’s leather jacket was just a plain purple jacket painted with the details.

Moana

We threw together these Moana costumes at the last minute for an event last year. I wore flowers in my hair and a green dress as TeFiti. My older daughter wore her Moana dress from LittleDressUpShop.com and my youngest wore a yellow dress with our Thanksgiving turkey hat (see those pictures here) to pull together a Hei Hei look.
