Wow I cannot believe it has been a week already since Maya entered our world.
At the beginning everything scared us; every time she cried, hiccupped, coughed, sneezed and slept. R and I were on high alert ready to jump into action. We are slowly learning what is ‘normal’ for Maya and when we don’t need to be concerned. But yes, we still worry and I have to admit we have text the midwife at least once a day with questions.
R is getting really fast at changing diapers. He has learnt that you often like to go when he takes off Mayas Nappy so he needs to have things on hand just in case. I have not mastered the nappy change, I have been expressing while R does the nappy change. Maya and I have not clicked in the breastfeeding department, we keep trying a few times a day but mainly we give her my expressed milk in a bottle. This isn’t how I’d ideally want to feed her but the main thing is that she is getting fed any anyway we get there is fine.
Howie (our kitten/cat) is coming to terms with the fact that our attention is not all on him. He often gets startled when Maya cries and has to go and investigate what is happening. When we first bought Maya in the house he was terrified and wouldn’t go near her. Now he is getting closer and closer, I hope eventually they will become best friends.
Anyway, this week has been full of so many emotions, mostly incredible love and bewilderment with a touch of anxiety. I cannot wait to get to know Maya more and more and spend more time as a family together.
