I hope you are all safe and indoors in this Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown. I have a water project from my school. We had to choose one water problem and the role we will play to talk about the problem. I chose the problem of WATER SHORTAGE and the role of a blogger to help SAVE WATER.

During my research I found out that India has only 4% of the world’s fresh water sources for a population of more than 1.3 billion people.* (Source: Wikipedia)

To understand this, we should look at how we use water in India. Of the 4% of water resources, 85.3% is used in irrigation activities; 6.6% in Domestic use; 1.3% in Industry, 0.3% in Energy and 6.5% in other tasks. ** (Source: newsd.in)

While reading this I remembered that last year on a visit to Hyderabad, I had met Dr. Rajendra Singh (see picture), who my parents told me was also called the WATERMAN OF INDIA.

So for my blog I decided to do a video-interview with Dr. Rajendra Singh. Let me add here that Dr. Singh has won many awards for his work on SAVING WATER in the desert state of Rajasthan. He has been working in this field for more than 20 years. Since I interviewed Dr. Singh myself this blog is based on a PRIMARY SOURCE.

Dr Singh told me that the solution to save water was:

(                a)   Rain WATER CONSERVATION
(                b)   DISCIPLINED USE OF WATER
(                c)  Don’t mix DIRTY WATER with CLEAN WATER
(                d)   RECYCLE, RETREAT & REUSE dirty water

He told me that I could also help SAVE WATER by not keeping the TAP running while brushing my teeth. Another suggestion that he gave me was to collect RAIN WATER in a tank for using at home. Most importantly I asked him how he was spending his time in the LOCKDOWN and I was very surprised to know that he is working in village Karoli (Rajasthan) between 14 to 16 hours everyday making WATER BODIES in the fields. These will be used in the rainy season for storing RAIN WATER. I have to say I was very honoured that a great man like him agreed to talk to me for my blog.

He gave me tips on how I can conserve water in my home everyday. I hope this will be helpful to you as well. Pls watch his talk with me in this link below :
