Hummus, at its core, is basically blended chickpeas. They are essentially a Mideastern/Mediterranean dish, making a wonderful dip or spread.  They are made out of chickpeas, otherwise known as garbanzo beans. But what do you really know about hummus?

We were curious ourselves about the mystery that is Hummus, so we devoured an abundance of Sabra hummus to study and learn everything about this wonderful snack. As you can see in the photo, we had the classic style, the roasted red pepper, hummus, and even these wonderful snack singles, which are coincidentally wonderful to take on a hike, but that’s a different story.

So without further ado, here are all the facts that we learned about hummus.

Hummus is filled with vitamin B, which also helps prevent birth defects.

Hummus is thought of as a natural aphrodisiac due to the ingredients, including iron, which come in magnesium and potassium.

The big difference between most hummus recipes is in how much cumin and tahini are used. The Turkish version sometimes substitutes butter for olive oil, but generally, it’s the mix of these main ingredients.

Sabra alone has 12 different types of hummus.

Some studies have shown that hummus can help people remain healthy during cancer treatment.

Hummus contains about 15 g of fiber per cup, so it’s quite good in terms of beneficial fibers.

Frequently people will ask Google whether hummus is Greek, Jewish, Moroccan, and basically any variance of every darn country in the Middle East.

The largest hummus plant in the world is in Virginia.
