Reasons mums love gin + a gin #giveaway

You may have noticed that in recent years the whole mum yaddah yaddah about “wine o’clock” has been slowing morphing into “gin o’clock”. Somewhere along the line gin has not only become a ladies drink of choice, but a mum’s drink of choice. Around the country you can find t-shirts, gin bags, glasses and signs proclaiming a mum’s love of gin and I lost count about the number of emails I received this Mother’s Day just gone about Mums and gin. A far cry from the days of gin being a mother’s ruin – let’s get to the bottom of why Mums Love Gin so much.

It’s socially acceptable

Well you can’t honestly imagine mums banging on about counting down to whisky o’clock can you?!….we’re not living in the Wild West after all (although it might feel like it sometimes!).  Or tequila…that would make you seem like a mad student or Mexican booze guzzler. No gin just conjures up fine images of mums sipping delicately on a nice G&T, so we can pretend we are more poster pin up gal, less bedraggled mum.

You can drink it from the afternoon

Ohhhh yes a nice little gin drinky, with a slice of cake (my other weakness)….because why on earth not?!

Gin cocktails are amazing

Don’t believe me, try one of these…

It’s sneaky

Thanks to the fact it’s totally clear, you can in fact sit there pretending you a saint sipping on water once Armageddon breaks loose in your house and you just can’t take it anymore. And nobody will ever be none the wiser.  You could just as well be drinking tea but yeah…well you know…it’s not quite the same is it? Plus – it never makes your nose red so no one will ever know.

It’s made from pinecones (not potatoes!)

Seriously vodka? Made out of potatoes. Gah! Save it for the mash. Gin  – made out of pinecones. Nuff said.

The hangover effect

Let’s face it, hangovers are vile at the best of times. Times that by a bajillion if you’re on parenting duties… but with gin, it’s blissfully minimal. You can actually function once you’re vertical!

It’s good enough for the Queen

Rumour has it the Queen is partial to a tipple of gin and if it’s good enough for queeny then it’s good enough for us! Also I might add that the other queen….you know the queen of pop Madonna loves a gin, even despite all her weird fitness and health obsessions. Nuff said.

Hurrah for Gin

The best parenting blog ever for mums and gin lovers alike…I’m pretty sure this legend started this gin loving mum movement. We salute you!

And now for the exciting bit! I’ve teamed up with Flavourly for a chance to win a one month gin box from their gin club!
