6 reasons I loved babywearing

Although it’s now four years since I had my daughter, those Baby days are still fresh as anything in my mind. And one of the good things I loved best and still miss about those baby days is baby wearing. So this International Babywearing Week, I want to share all the reasons I loved babywearing as a mum.

Your baby is always close

The fact that you are able to have your baby so close to you at any given time is a beautiful thing. The fact that you’re babywearing means a) you know where they are and b) that they are therefore safe. But it’s more than that – because they are so close to you for a greater proportion of time, it gives you endless opporunity for snuggles, connectedness and bonding….which of course baby and mama love!

It always means you can constantly talk and sing to them while you’re going about every day life – which is great for their development too. There never seemed to be any crying or fussing when my daughter was being worn…everyone was happy!

It’s a great way of staying on top of things

Babes in arms might be a nice picture but seriously, how can you ever get anything done!? When you’re babywearing you can just wear the baby and do the chores –  clean, do the laundry, cook and even work…the baby comes along for the ride and is happy whatever because they are with you.

It’s easy

Honestly, in my first year of being a mum I hardly used a pram. I found them so annoying! It’s just an extra faff you don’t need. No waiting for stupid lifts for forever, no dealing with public transport dramas or supermarket stresses. Popping the baby in the carrier? So much easier, and hands free too!

It’s exercise

In those days when I was dying to lose the baby weight I didn’t have to stress about when I was going to exercise because I simply popped my daughter in the carrier and worked out with her on me. But it wasn’t just the dedicated exercise that did it for me….carrying that extra weight along whilst doing anything really helped to keep me fit and strong.

It’s fun

With a baby in a  pram – you have to think twice before doing anything. When you’re babywearing, you can do anything with ease. Quite simply, you can take a baby in a baby carrier to all sorts of places that would be a complete nightmare with a pram! And then there’s the other aspect….being about to dance around and be silly with your baby in a way you really couldn’t do with a pram either. Definitely the way to go for the fun loving mama!

It helps with sleep

Nap time struggles? Nope, not when you’re babywearing. Or toddler wearing for that matter. Sleep comes so easily when you’re babywearing. If only I could have worn my daughter all night long!

Are you a babywearer? Did you used to wear your baby? Or perhaps you’re pregnant and wondering if you should babywear? Do leave a comment and share. Thank you and happy International Babywearing Week! Love Talya xoxo
