Being a parent 24/7, 365 days a year takes it out of you. You're tired and don't have enthusiasm for anything. Taking a break from Parenting (if and when possible) can make a huge difference to your overall happiness and energy levels.
The Hubby and I recently had a break for 2 whole nights! It was great and we visited Stratford-upon-Avon, as well as having a lazy day.
Once it was time to pick up the kids again I was feeling happy and relaxed.
1. You're not woken up before dawn by screeching children.
Waking up when you're ready to Wake
up, rather than being jumped on or screeched at to wake, starts your day well. You wake with a smile, in the comforting knowledge that you don't need to hurry out of bed to make breakfast for everyone.
2. You can roll out of bed whenever you feel like it... or not.
There's absolutely no reason to get out of bed if you don't want to. You can lay there all day if you choose and no one is going to nag you about food, drinks, or toys.
3. If you choose to get out of bed you can decide what to do.
A day of shopping catch your fancy? Go for it. Restaurant for lunch? No problem. Lazy afternoon? Easy.
It doesn't matter if you want a busy day doing exactly what you want or an easy day doing absolutely nothing, the choice is entirely yours.
4. Spending alone time together brings you closer.
When you're parenting it's easy to forget about making each other happy. You get swept up in the day-to-day stuff and concentrate on keeping the children occupied. Taking a break means you have time to concentrate on each other. You get to talk to one another without constant interruptions, you can actually have a proper conversation! You can kiss, and cuddle, to your hearts content without hearing the children moan and groan.
5. Taking a break makes you happier
We all need a break, no matter what it is we're doing. When we work all the time we take a Holiday
to ease stress, the kids have holidays from school, and as a parent taking a holiday from parenting is just the same. It leaves you feeling relaxed and ready to take on a whole new level of parenting!
So what are you waiting for, go and organise those babysitters right now!
