First sunshine of the half-term break

We live right by the sea, so when the weather is good we are usually outside like a shot! This half-term break however has been pretty uneventful for our kids so far, and the lack of nice weather has been mostly to blame!

Today though, the sun decided to show itself. We didn’t need an invitation, we were heading out and that was that. Due to Mummy being unwell her energy levels aren’t fantastic so we kept things simple and took the kids to a playground just a few roads away from where we live. Little did we know, it was much hotter than we realised.

The kids didn’t care. Within a few minutes of leaving our house we had arrived and they threw themselves into the fun like kids do, alternating between the slide, the climbing frames, the swings, and the little woodland walk area at the back which they love. LA especially loves anything nature-like… trees, flowers, insects, animals… she bought a drawing pad and pencil along so she could sketch some pictures. So cute!

With the heat getting to us already, the kids began asking for drinks and we hadn’t come prepared at all – we were too keen to just get out before the sunshine turned into rain. So I took Baby L to a nearby shop, stocked up on drinks and snacks and returned to the park to refresh the kids a little.

Even Mummy got sucked in, and fancied a go on the slide with our 6 year old son LU. Baby L had a bit of a dramatic half-hour but that was just from being over-tired. After being on the park for around an hour and a half we decided to head to a nearby walk-way which used to be tramways, it’s a place we often visit mainly because there’s a little stream which runs along it in parts and the kids enjoying playing there.

The stream though, wasn’t a stream today. It was a dumping ground for disgusting peoples crap which is a real shame. Being us though we made the most of it, with Mummy balancing on an upturned shopping trolley which had been dumped for a photo-op! It’ll be reported to the local street cleaning department of course, it’s a nice place being ruined by just a few disgusting people, usually it’s all clear and kid-friendly.

It was after this that the heat was becoming too much. Yes – the first sun we’ve had this half-term, but still we complained that it was too hot. It’s what makes us English. Off home we went to cool down and relax for the rest of the afternoon. Linking up with Coombe Mill‘s wonderful #CountryKids. Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone!
