Being a new parent can be challenging. Be it your first time or your third, every Baby is different and they come with unique quirks. Learning to handle them and guide them through the hurdles they face is a full time job. Your baby loves to observe you and the world around them so they will pick up on new things everyday. It’s the parent’s job to keep up with their inquisitiveness. You have to do your best to gain as much knowledge and understanding so that your baby is always safe and taken care of. Although gathering information, and tips on how to deal with your baby may seem overwhelming at first, it will get more manageable as time goes by. Sometimes it takes some creative and unique methods to set things on the right track.

Here are a couple of Unconventional Baby Tips to make parenting easier:

1. Share A Room, Not A Bed

Most parents are very concerned about the safety of their newborn. As they should be! They are vulnerable and delicate. But this doesn’t mean that they can’t sleep by themselves. If you are uncomfortable with the notion of placing them in their nursery straight away, it’s okay to bring them into your room for the first couple of months or even the first year. But make sure to bring their crib or bassinet along. Although you may argue that your baby is safest close to you, you don’t want to sleep next to them when they are so tiny. It’s best for their safety if you tuck them in the crib. That way you avoid putting them at risk of getting crushed by accident. Besides, your baby needs a space that isn’t crowded with blankets and pillows in order to breathe properly.

2. Rotate Your Baby’s Head Every Other Night When You Put Them To Sleep

Once your baby has acclimated to sleeping in their crib, it’s best to alternate the position they sleep in every other night. Make sure to mix it up and change the position of your baby’s head so that they don’t strain their neck by always sleeping the same way. This will also help avoid the development of a flat spot on one side of their head. So make sure to shift them around, they won’t even notice.

3. Bathe The Baby Only Once Or Twice A Week

Your newborn does nothing all day and chances are, they’ve never been exposed to dust or pollution. Therefore, there is no need for them to bathe every day. Just once or twice a week will do. It is recommended that you only clean spots where they get dirty with a wet cloth and limit baths to twice a week. This is because bathing frequently can dry out your baby’s skin and may lead to rashes and itchy skin. The two things you do not want to deal with!

4. Let Your Baby Look Out The Window

As your baby grows so does their curious nature. By the third month they have already developed enough to want to explore more of the world. So why not give them a taste? Their view of their environment and surroundings is constantly developing. Encourage this by letting them look out the window for a bit everyday. This is a great activity for them. Point things out and name them. Familiarizing them with your surroundings is never a bad idea!

5. Put Your Baby’s Feet In The Bathtub First

When giving your baby a bath there are some key things to keep in mind. One great trick to get them acclimated to the water is to put their feet in first. This will help them get used to the shift in temperature. Then slide their legs in slowly. When they are partially submerged or seated, you can gently lower them into the tub fully. Let them lie down on a non-slippery surface in the tub and you are good to go!

6. Give Them Space To Let The Tantrum Pass

Often, babies wake up in a cranky mood and can be susceptible to tantrums. Babies get fussy sometimes and need to be left alone, just like you do. So when you’ve tried feeding them, changing their diapers, rocking them to sleep, removing them from their immediate environment and every other trick up your sleeve, try giving them space. If you can’t make the tantrum disappear, take a step back and let your baby be in a mood. Chances are, they’ll get distracted and snap out of it in a bit. So, when all else fails, give them space while still keeping their surroundings safe and still staying in their line of sight.

Being a parent is a long winding journey and this is just the beginning. Enjoy this time with your little one. Take time to play with them and encourage their curious nature. And make the most out of this precious time with them. Happy parenting!
