When I Didn’t Make Myself a Priority

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Tropicana Essentials® Probiotics.

It’s that time of year when so many of us start talking about taking better care of themselves. It sounds great. But what I learned the hard way is that unless I actually make myself a priority, things are not going to go well. Though I always have a long to-do list, I have to put myself on it.

Looking back at Christmas 2016, I felt pretty awful. I was tired all the time. I felt uncomfortable in my body. I tried to hide it or pretend like it was some sort of temporary thing that would easily pass with the holidays. It’s hidden pretty well in this picture, though if you look back at my instagram from this time last year, you can see it clearly.

The truth was that poor eating habits like skipping breakfast and then eating a massive and unhealthy lunch because I was then really hungry and not making exercise a priority had really taken their toll. I was the heaviest I’d ever been and yes, I’m counting when I was 9 months pregnant with my kids. I tried to put on a favorite pair of jeans but they got stuck somewhere shortly above my knees. My wedding rings felt uncomfortably tight and I started wearing one of those silicone rings designed for an active lifestyle, though that wasn’t really my reason for putting one on.

I was about to turn 40 and knew that I couldn’t keep going this way. I needed to stop making excuses and actually take care of myself.

I started going to yoga on a regular basis. In the past year, I’ve gone over 100 times, which sounds like a lot, but really means that most weeks, I went three times a week, but slacked a little during the summer, when I kept active with my kids.

Breakfast became part of my daily routine. And I stocked up on fruits, veggies, plus paid attention to things like fiber, whole grains, and probiotics.

That takes us to Christmas 2017. The jeans I’d worn the previous Christmas were tucked up on a high shelf in my closet because they are way too big. Instead, my favorite jeans fit again. My wedding rings slid easily onto my finger.

I’m feeling so much better. And I plan to continue on this path of taking care of myself. Going to yoga, adding more cardio, getting sleep and rest when I need it instead of waiting until I feel run into the ground.

Paying more attention at the grocery store is also on my to-do list this year. A convenient and delicious way to deliver one billion live and active cultures to your gut is to enjoy an 8 oz serving of Tropicana Essentials® Probiotics. It is a 100% juice with probiotics, no added sugar or artificial flavors, and provides a whole day’s vitamin C.

Tropicana Essentials® Probiotics is available in three delicious flavors: Strawberry Banana, Pineapple Mango and Peach Passion Fruit. Find it in 32 oz bottles next to the other refrigerated juices at Walmart.

It can be difficult to juggle self-care and everything else I need to do, so it’s nice to have a convenient way to add more probiotics into my daily routines.

How do you make yourself a priority?
