Keeping School Lunches Simple

This post is part of a paid campaign with Acorn Influence for Walmart. All opinions are my own.

You’re supposed to make fancy Lunches for your kids, with everything cut in a cute shape and placed artistically into colorful containers.

And your lunch options should be organized in different labeled bins in your fridge and pantry.

Or not.

I’ll admit, I’m impressed by some of the fancy School lunches I see on Pinterest.

But, to be totally honest, my kids wouldn’t eat most of what is in those lunches. And I’m okay with that because I don’t have the time to make those lunches anyway.

My boys tend to stick to the same things in their lunches, only varying which fruit or veggie they take or what flavor yogurt or juice they pack. And that’s okay. The important thing is that they’re eating, refueling themselves for their school day. No guilt over Keeping School Lunches simple.

I make sandwiches for the week on Sundays and freeze them so they’re ready to be tossed in lunchboxes every morning. The kids know to take one of these plus a fruit and/or veggie.

And as for those amazingly organized fridges and pantries, not all of us have the space (or desire) to be able to do that. Since I have neither, I just have a designated drawer for snacks and lunch extras that the kids can grab. They also know that these are for school, so they have to look elsewhere if they want an after school or bedtime snack.

Napkins and plasticware are kept by these snacks, too.

You don’t have to have a separate fridge or entire pantry for this. Keep reminding yourself: the goal is to get the kids fed, not to impress with pictures of your system.

Yoplait Multipacks help me keep it simple, too. They now have a box with an open top to easily see what flavors are left in the box(and when you need to stock up on more).

This way, my boys are taking what they want, instead of having to dig around for it. With flavor combinations like Original Strawberry and Harvest Peach, there’s something each of my boys likes. And I like that I can pick these up at Walmart, along with all of our other snacks and lunch supplies.

The school year is busy enough without feeling like lunch has to be a work of art. It just has to feed our kids.

How else do you keep things simple during the school year?
