Hudson Restaurant Week is back and celebrating lucky year 13! With 42 participating restaurants in Jersey City, Hoboken, Fort Lee and Weehawken there are delectable food offerings of all kinds waiting to satisfy your taste buds. Restaurants are offering two course lunches and three course dinners at a discounted price now through August 4.
There are 19 Jersey City restaurants participating in the HRW Summer edition and five new restaurants have been added to their list, including FM and Latham House in Jersey City. There are also many return restaurants, some which have been participating in Hudson Restaurant Week since the beginning, like Amanda’s, Edwards Steakhouse and Liberty House.
Tamara Remedios founded Hudson Restaurant Week in 2005 after discussions with restaurant owners revealed that they needed help getting people into their establishments during certain times of the year and they wanted to try something other than traditional advertising. Remedios explains that New York Restaurant Week had just finished around this time so she borrowed the idea for our area. “We had about 20 restaurants participate the first year with the state tourism office helping fund some of the marketing. Since then, Hudson Restaurant Week has been primarily self-funded through the participating restaurants,” she says.
Remedios encourages restaurants from all parts of Hudson County to participate in Hudson Restaurant Week. “Having my own marketing agency for 18 years, I am a strong locavore and I believe in supporting small and local businesses,” she says. Hudson Restaurant Week is a reminder to frequent local restaurants when their business is typically slower. HRW is bi-annual – timed for January after holiday shopping takes its toll on consumers and then again in July when people are often out of town vacationing. “As a mom of two toddlers, Hudson Restaurant Week is the excuse I need to get a nice meal out with my spouse or friends and I think many others use the promotion to make similar plans,” Remedios adds.
“I love making the rounds for restaurant week − meeting diners and other foodies. With social media (which wasn’t very strong when we started HRW) I get to be a part of people’s meals via their “foodporn” posts on instagram or Facebook, ” she says. “We even give out free meals during Hudson Restaurant Week for those that use the hashtag #HudsonRW on their social media which is a lot of fun.”
Hudson County foodies looking to satisfy new food experiences should check out the Summer edition of Hudson Restaurant Week which runs till August 4.
