Self-care is something you should really make time for in your everyday routine. The fact is, you’re the only person who has to spend time with you forever, so it only makes sense that you should be taking care of yourself. If you’re somebody that constantly takes care of others but rarely yourself, it’s time to rethink. You can’t pour from an empty cup, and you’ll no doubt be working your way toward burn out if you carry on.
When you take care of yourself, you tend to feel more able to present your best self to the world. You can then care for others far better. I know as a mother I have struggled with taking care of myself. I am always so worried about my children and put myself on the back burner. I have made it a goal to spend more time caring for myself. Taking time each day for self-care will make all the difference to your life. Here are some pointers and ideas to help you get started:
Take Time In The Morning And At Night
The key to self-care is to make it a routine. Even if you start out by setting aside 10-15 minutes in the morning and the same at night, you’ll find yourself getting into a consistent routine so that it becomes second nature. Take the time to make yourself feel and look good. Here are some ideas:
Make a healthy, tasty breakfast to fuel you for the day.
Take a walk before getting ready for the day.
Read a chapter of a book and enjoy a hot drink.
Do some stretches or yoga.
Take Care Of Your Mind And Body
Taking care of both your mind and body is important for self-care. If one is lacking, it’s likely the other is, as they can directly affect the other. For instance, eating the wrong foods can make you feel sluggish and unhappy, as well as having a negative physical effect on your body. Take baby steps. Start eating more fruit and vegetables. Aim to become more active each day. Make a list of things you know you need to do and then work through the list slowly, mastering each one for a few weeks as you go. The key isn’t to be perfect, but consistent. Make sure you do things that make you feel your best, too, whether that’s removing your skin tags or wearing a bright outfit that you love.
Learn To Love Yourself
Learning to love yourself can be tough, as we’re pretty much trained from a young age to believe that loving yourself is vain or wrong. Well, it isn’t. If you don’t love yourself, how can you expect anybody else to? You should love yourself. You should learn to be your own best friend. Speak to yourself in a kinder voice in your own head. Refuse to entertain negative thoughts about yourself. Act as if you are your own best friend. It’ll make all the difference to how you feel!
Self-care should not fall to the wayside. Get into the habit slowly, and remember all of the reasons why this is so important. It is not selfish to care for yourself. Quite the opposite!
