How to Promote a Thankful Attitude in Your Kids This Christmas Season

Christmas is right around the corner, and this means we have a lot to teach our kids between now and then. Don’t let your kids get away with a sour attitude. In fact, there are many things we can do with our kids that helps to promote a Thankful Attitude. No one else is going to teach them these lessons, so let’s support each other. Here is how to promote a thankful attitude in your kids this Christmas Season.

Spend Time Volunteering

What better way to teach our kids life skills like thankfulness than spending time volunteering? Just because you have children, it doesn’t mean you can’t teach your kids how to volunteer.

Spend time doing unorganized volunteering like picking up trash or writing thank you notes to the fire or police department. You can also spend organized time volunteering at your local pet shelter or at a nursing home.

Allow Your Kids to Interact With Others Who Need Assistance

Let’s be honest about this, most of our kids have everything they want or need. It’s great for both children and adults to get a better handle on a thankful attitude by meeting people of all walks of life. Here are some ways to allow your kids to see and interact with others who may not have all they need, are going through a difficult time, or who simply need a helping hand. Reaching out to others is always a great way to count our blessings.

  • Volunteer at the soup kitchen
  • Hand out food or goodie bags to homeless
  • Pay for someone’s groceries

Teach Your Kids Manners and Etiquette

Another way to help your kids express a thankful attitude is to teach them their manners. While we might not always feel thankful on the inside, expressing thankfulness is always a choice our kids have. Saying please and thank you is a way you can promote a thankful attitude in your kids this Christmas season. Even when they open a gift that they may not like. We should teach our kids to be thankful in all situations.

Be Thankful Yourself

Our kids are always watching us. A really good way to promote a thankful attitude in your kids is to be thankful yourself. Your kids are watching you and when you are speaking to others. They are watching your mannerisms and when you say please and thank you. They can also hear you when you complain, which is why it’s important to have a thankful attitude, whenever possible.

Promoting a thankful attitude in our kids this Christmas season is so important. What do you do to help promote a thankful attitude in your kids year round?
