Being a Mother Changed my Life

Being a Mother Changed my Life

Now I know that sounds bloody ridiculous, of course it did. But I had no understanding of how much it would change when I fell pregnant. My last employed position was a Senior Group Financial Controller in an engineering company, and I knew nothing would change that. I had worked ridiculously hard to get there. From a very young age I knew this is what I wanted to do, and therefore got a degree in Business with Finance. At the age of 25 I was a Financial Controller of a packaging company, and started to train new recruits as they joined other parts of Europe.

I left this job in 2006 to go to a bigger company and met my now husband, (he was my boss and the Managing Director). Anyway to cut a rather long and boring story I fell pregnant. I gave birth on the 27th December, and with my son on my lap I completed month end and year end with only 4 days off from work after giving birth.

I was lucky and worked from home for about 2 months and then my son went to full time nursery. While I travelled around the UK as I was in charge of the finances for 6 sites.  I continued this until he was 18 months old, and realised this was not working.

We looked into our finances and I decided to quit my job, the job I had worked so hard to get, to become a full time Mother. The CEO of the company, my boss when I left, was convinced I would be back after 6 weeks.

This was 6 years ago…

The woman who was actively smashing glass ceilings had given it all up to be a full time mum and house wife. I have never looked back. My life has Changed ten fold but there is no greater job in the world. Although I am now working from home as a social media manager, I am always here for him, I can now be there when he is sick, go to all school performances and get to take him to his many after school activities.

Spending time with my baby has changed my life for the better #motherhood

I have absolute total respect for women who continue to do what I had planned and tried to do, but for me, I have now found my place.

Here is how motherhood has changed the lives of my blogger friends:

Lianne from Anklebiters Adventures “I can’t have a second alone – even to go to the toilet”

Eileen from 2 Nerds and a Baby ” I feel like it’s changed the essence of who I am, like even my name I don’t feel like Eileen anymore I feel like Mam!”

Jo from Cup of Toast “I’m less spontaneous. Foreign weekends away on the spur of the moment, last minute cinema trips…they’re things of the past, for now!”

Pete from Household Money Saving “I feel I have lost a bit of my own identity and my life revolves around my kids. But it was worth it.”

Vikki from Family Travel with Ellie “My priorities have changed completely. Those small humans have become my everything, they are my consideration in everything I do, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.”

Kate from Ever After with Kids “I can no longer do what I want when I want – but I’ve found that when I really think about it there’s nothing I want more than to be there for them and help them grow.”

Sara from Keep Up with the Jones Family “It’s made me value my life more. I take better care of myself and appreciate my family so much more than ever – because my boys mean the world to me and I want to be here as long as time allows”

Bee from The Lupie Mummy “I have made the decision to give up my career and be a stay at home Mum, this was not my plan, and I even returned to work for a short while, but it didn’t work out for either of us. I am loving every moment and day being with my little one!”

Emma from The Mini Mes and Me “I can’t sleep like I used to. The kids are old enough to no longer wake up during the night but I’m always on high alert and wake at the sound of a pin drop!”

How has it changed your life??
