Last week, I received this beautiful set of books from Zonderkidz, the Once Upon A Time Storybook Bible and the Once Upon a Time Holy Bible. These are brilliantly illustrated books that let you share the Bible with children at two very different levels of reading readiness.
The Once Upon A Time Storybook Bible is just that – a collection of stories from the old and new testaments. Each story begins with the words, “Once Upon a Time,” and each concludes with a “Happily Ever After” comment – a sort of summary of the lesson of the story, complete with a scripture reference. The volume includes thirty-three biblical stories re-told in child-friendly language.
The Once Upon a Time Holy Bible is a full Bible, not a storybook, in the New International Reader’s Version. It features a few selected stories from the companion Storybook Bible and many of the same illustrations. I noted that the stories included also have the full scripture reference so that children can look up the story and read it as originally written. In addition, the Bible contains an explanation of the differences between the NIV and NIRV Bibles, which parents may find very helpful. This is a perfect first “real” Bible for a young reader and could be an ideal for a child transitioning from a Storybook Bible.
Both versions feature this tagline:
Every great story happened once upon a time.
The Once Upon A Time Holy Bible is available where books are sold. The Once Upon a Time Storybook Bible is available at Sam’s Club or wherever books are sold. Both versions can also be purchased online.
I received complimentary copies of these books for review purposes from Propeller Promotions, LLC. Any opinion expressed in this post is mine alone.
