Epidural is not the only option! Here are drug-free ways to ease labour pain!

Dealing with Labour Pain is not a cake walk for any woman! While a few of them opt to put up with the pain, a few others resort to medication or elective c-sections to battle the pain. However, times have changed and today there are other drug-free methods to help women tackle labour pain.

So, stop fretting about your D-day and focus on these natural pain relief measures!

1.  Get a hot water tub

Water birth or hydro birthing is a technique which is followed in many hospitals off late. This method involves sitting inside a tub of warm water. Ensure the water is at the right temperature, else it can cause injury. Warm water has its own ways of soothing contractions, making it a little easy for mommies to push their babies out. And the biggest plus, this process does not involve the use of any medicines and is 100% safe.

2.  Exercise ball

If you have been practicing yoga during pregnancy, you sure will know how helpful this is. Leaning against an exercise ball or against a bed, applying pressure on your lower back, helps your pelvis open up faster, pushing the baby out more easily. And this is also a great way of managing pain more efficiently.

3. Acupressure

Yes, acupressure can be used for labour too! The acupressure stimulation of certain points can make birthing easier for women. Well, don’t fret too much about it because the acupressure therapist will first check you for the level of comfort.

4.  Hypnosis

Research says that more than 75% women who learned this hypnotic technique felt mild cramping sensations, tightening due to contractions and slight pressure. This is a self-regulatory technique as ultimately the key to easing out pain lies only in your hands. You can teach yourself breathing exercises, guided exercises, or any other form of visualization techniques in order to combat the pain.

5. The environment

Last but definitely not the least, the environment in which the mother gives birth is most critical. Turning off the lights helps her brain’s instinctive behavior kick in, bringing her more comfort. You could also grab more pillows, play soothing music, etc to boost her inner aura so she can get that sudden blob of energy and push that little one into the world.

And of course, dear men, please do not try to use your sense of humour or do any kind of small talk with her, else you are sure to face serious repercussions. All said and done, ladies, don’t fret about labour. After all our mums and grand mums did it and we can too. Our bodies are crafted that way!
