Is your discharge normal? 7 Things your vaginal discharge is trying to tell you!

Vaginal Discharge can be a very common thing. However, did you know it can be a major indication of your health? From normal cycles to serious health issues, your vaginal discharge can convey a lot about your health. While it is mandatory to head to the doctor when you see something abnormal, here are some telltale signs about vaginal discharge you must not ignore!

1.     If it’s clear

Clear vaginal discharge indicates ovulation. This is also nature’s way of telling you that it’s a great time get into action if you want to get pregnant or protect yourself if you don’t want to. And the biggest advantage is that it comes with a boost in your libido, since this is your most fertile period.

2.     If its creamy

Sometimes women tend to experience a heavy, creamy discharge a few days before periods. This is usually normal and calls for no concern.

3.     If it has traces of blood

This could be a sign you are getting ready for your periods. However, if you do see a reddish discharge which looks slightly off or if you are bleeding on days when you are not suppose to, there could be other culprits. Infections, ectopic pregnancy, breakthrough bleeding on the pill etc could be some of the possible reasons. However, do consult your doctor before you start any medication.

4.     If its lumpy and white

This is a clear sign of yeast infection. Typically yeast infections are accompanied with a lot of external and internal itching. If you are prone to yeast infection, avoid heavily-scented personal hygiene products and also change out of gym wear or bathing suits immediately. Another tip is to go commando at night, as it allows to air the area a bit.

5.     If its yellow or greenish-yellow

This definitely is a cause for concern and worry. It is a clear indication of STDs and require medical treatment. So, don’t ignore this one!

6.     If it’s heavier than usual

This could mean your contraceptive maybe at fault. As long as the discharge is watery and has no smell, there is no cause for worry or concern. Occasionally a heavy discharge could result from an allergic reaction or sensitivity to chemicals. However, if you do experience any foul smell, do not ignore.

7.     If its lighter than usual

This could indicate you are approaching a pre-menopause phase. In addition to being lighter than usual, the discharge may also become more watery, thin and uncomfortable.
