Expedition - Part 2
Day two of our exploration, once again, started early in the morning. We had a basic plan to return to the area where we had poured plaster into foot prints and collect the castings. We also wanted to go to the exact spot were we had our sighting of a Bigfoot last year. We wanted to see if we could hike in below the steep mountain and find the area where the bigfoot might have been staying.
Day 2
Once at the location, we put on our gear and started the hike. We decided to leave the castings in the ground and pick them up on the way back out. As we rounded a sharp bend in the trail a Bird sound caught Guy's attention.
It was a Hairy Woodpecker. We spend the next several minutes trying to locate the bird and get a good look at it. We were successful and was able to get some very nice looks at it through the binoculars. The belly/chest of the Hairy Woodpecker is a brilliant white. The bird is medium-sized woodpecker that is found over a large area of North America. I don't think I had ever seen one before, or if I had I didn't know what it was at the time. The image on the left is a random image from a google search.After a short while the bird moved on and so did we. We hiked to the spot where last year we sat and had a snack. This was the spot we conducted the interview where Guy told about his experience while hunting. The sounds he made during the interview caused some bigfoot activity which ultimately led to us having our sighting. If you have not watched that interview, I highly recommend you do.
While in the area, we discovered several stick formations and, of all things, another grave like mound. If you haven't been following my research efforts, let me fill you in a little. Over the years I have been finding what appears to be large graves out in the forest. I don't know what they are and I would not dig one up. I had made a post about these several months ago, post found here, which many outlets picked up on but quoted me wrong. I still do not know what they are for sure, but I find it interesting. Anyways, back to our expedition.
Once in last year's sighting area, we scouted around for a way to go down the mountain and hike to the area. Going down the mountain from the top was not a option as it was very steep, a cliff really. So, we hiked back to a near by hollow and went down it. The goal here was to hike along the bottom of the ridge and into the area where the bigfoot was standing last year. The hike was very hard and if not for a small deer path, we might not have even made it.
At one point, a book that Guy was carrying fell out and it rolled down the mountain at a very high rate of speed. I would guess it rolled a good 25 yards or more. We had a slight pause as Guy retrieved the book. We talked about how if one of us fell we would do the same thing ...roll down the steep mountain.

The book was National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America, Guy had brought it along so he could show and teach me about the different bird species. The book survived the tumble with only minor damage.
We continued to walk the steep mountain and followed the narrow deer path. Along the way we found what looked to be bigfoot tracks but due to all the leaf litter there was no definition in the prints. We found several trees that "might" have been where this bigfoot was standing but we could not pinpoint the exact tree. Just what the bigfoot was doing in that area last year is not known. It could have just been walking around, resting or came to the area after Guy made the sounds during the interview. One thing is for sure, climbing this part of the mountain was very strenuous on us, but I would think it is not a problem for a bigfoot.
We made our way back up to the top of the mountain thanks to a old road that was filled with small saplings. This old road was past our sighting area and on a less steep part of the mountain.
We started our hike back out of the area and stopped along the way to removed the castings that had been there overnight.
Our first stop was that the double step casting. This was the casting where the smaller bigfoot had stepped in the edge of a adult bigfoot track. This created an overlapping and a unique track. Sadly the track broke up as we tried to remove it. The smaller track came out pretty much intact but the large track broke into several pieces. The hope is to put it back together after it is well dried and cleaned. Even if Guy can not put it all back together, there is hope that there is still some details in the broken casting. Please note that all of the casting I will talk about and show were for Guy's collection. I'm sure he will send me photos of them once they are cured and cleaned.
We continued our hike out and picked up the other castings. The day had been a hard one and my feet were sore from walking on the steep mountain side.
I know a lot of people will not find this real research very exciting and we will never get the credit for all our hard work and abuse to our bodies, but what we do is real. Its not easy by any stretch. I come home with cuts, scratches, sore muscles and bruises, but I enjoy every minute of it for the most part. You will not be wearing flip flops and shorts in the places we go. So for those few who really understand boots on the ground research and follow our efforts, we thank you.
Once home we once again rested a little and when on a short walk to do some bird watching.
