Twin Cone, Kenosha Pass, Colorado Encounter

August 23, 2018, two hikers found more than just a great view on their hike.

The mother and her 21 year old daughter parked their car off the dirt road and set off up the trail from Kenosha Pass on the east side that would take them above the tree line. They began around noon and arrived at the tree line at about 3:30 p.m.

Their hike so far had been pleasant and they turned around to go back down the mountain.  That was when the daughter said she thought she had just heard a knock.

Mom then picked up a Rock and knocked it against a large rock just off the side of the road, "being silly", as she put it. She then tossed the rock from her hands about 5 feet off the road. As they started to walk, they were overtaken by an unbearable stench. And around two minutes later, both women heard multiple, loud tree knocks. And then rocks began being tossed past them.

The mother stood frozen in place, as she stared at a dark figure staring back at them. The daughter beginning to cry and scream as the rocks flew past them, grabbed her mother's arm. The two began to run back down the trail. The mother was carrying an airhorn and sounded it three times as they ran. When she blew the horn, the rock throwing faltered, but would then continue.

The women were followed for several miles down the mountain until they neared their car. As they reached their car, there was a loud roar/scream from the tree line. They scrambled inside.  It was nearly a quarter after 6.

The mother notified the BFRO and an investigator was sent out. He found a possible partial footprint and a possible hiding/sleeping area which still had quite a distinctive odor to it.  He further questioned the women. The mother said that she had gotten the strong feeling that the creature she saw was hostile and that it might charge at her and her daughter. The daughter had been too frightened to look at the creature. She also told the investigator that the rocks had come from a different direction than the figure she was watching. This appeared to be an indication that there was more than one creature at the tree line. Although both women felt that they were under attack at the time, they were not hit by any of the thrown rocks. It appears this was more of an intimidation tactic. It can be theorized that if the creatures had wanted to actually harm the women, it would have been quite easy to either hit them with the rocks or actually approach and physically attack them.
