How to Do SEO for E-commerce Websites

This tips can help a business realize the best ROI figures possible and improve their overall revenue figures.

As more businesses start to sell their products online, it is becoming abundantly clear that the future of business as we know it is Ecommerce. However, simply setting up an online store is not enough for businesses today. Ecommerce websites also need to change with the times in order to see the best results. Vandko Candles, small business firm from New York hired me recently to improve their eCommerce website. I did a few things, and still I am improving some aspects on their website. I hope this will help a business realize the best ROI figures possible and improve their overall revenue figures.

Become More Social

One way the world of eCommerce will need to change is to become more Social. If you head over to my client's website, you'll see social buttons in the footer. Why? Because, Social Media provides businesses a great opportunity to connect with the customers and determine which products they are looking to purchase. Facebook is even attempting to roll out a “want” button similar to their already popular “like” button which will allow people to display products they want to purchase on their social media account. Using this feature to connect with your customers (like my client do)  will allow your business to determine which products your customers want to purchase so you can add them to your inventory.

In addition to finding out which products your customers want to purchase, social media will enable you to connect with your customers on a more personal level. By creating a connection with your customers via social media, you will be able to provide them with the quality customer service they are seeking, which will help your business build a loyal following of customers.

Understand Your Customers

Knowing how your customers are interacting with your online store is an important piece of the eCommerce puzzle. By understanding how your customers are connecting with your online store, you can determine which methods are most effective for your business’s bottom line. If consumers who access your online store via their mobile device are more likely to make a purchase than someone who visits your website from a social media account, then you will want to focus your marketing efforts on those who are using mobile devices to visit your store.

Having this type of data at your finger tips will allow you to ensure that you are spending your marketing dollars on only those consumers who have a good chance of becoming a paying customer at your eCommerce website. Vandko gathered a small team just for tracking and analyzing data - where from the visitors come, how much they stay on a page or pages, and many other aspects. Google analytics is powerful tool to compare and analyze data.

Analyze Your Site’s Design

An important aspect of an eCommerce website that cannot be ignored is the site’s design. When you design an eCommerce website, it is important to keep the user’s experience in mind. This will help your website increase its conversion rate while also building a website that people enjoy visiting and will visit again in the future.

Paying particularly close attention to how your website’s visitors interact with your shopping cart is an absolute must for an eCommerce website. When someone is ready to make a purchase through your website, it is important that your shopping cart be as easy as possible to navigate so it does not scare off a potential sale. I changed it on Vandko's website. They had shopping card in upper left corner, I tested it on the upper right, together with "my account" and "register" links. That way I visually connected everything related to account and shopping cart. Constantly monitoring your eCommerce website’s shopping cart statistics will enable you to make the necessary changes to your site’s design in order to increase your site’s conversion rate.

There is no denying that the future of business lies in the hands of eCommerce. As more businesses start to sell their products online, companies need to keep up with the times when it comes to their eCommerce website as well. Engaging with customers via social media websites, understanding where your customer are coming from so you can provide them with the products they are looking for instantly and building your website with the user’s experience in mind are all steps you can take to ensure your eCommerce website produces the type of results you are looking for.
