A Step-by-Step Guide to Prepare a Custom GA4 Report in 5 Minutes

Google Analytics 4 uses different data structures and data collection logic that is hugely beneficial to marketers for cross-platform data analysis and better prediction of user behaviour. It is different from Universal Analytics as the focus here is based on events and not on sessions.

GA4 helps in building custom reports either from scratch or from a current Report. Here’s the step-by-step guide to preparing a custom report from scratch in less than a couple of minutes.

Step: 1

Login to your GA4 account. Click on the ‘Reports Tab’ and select ‘Library.’

NOTE: While customizing the report, it is crucial to check the date in the initial step as it gives a clear overview.

Step: 2

Once the ‘Library’ section appears, click the ‘Create New Report’ button and select ‘Create Detail Report.’

Step: 3

Upon selecting ‘Create Detail Report’ choose a template or a blank document and start choosing the relevant dimensions and metrics to build out the views of data you need.

Step: 4

Once the metrics and dimensions are added and selected, click the three-dot icon on the top-right, to set the Device Category as the default dimension and save the report with an appropriate name.

Similarly, we can build customised reports using Tech details, Events, Conversions, eCommerce purchases, publisher ads, in-app purchases, Pages and screens.

We can also make custom reports using Free Form Exploration which is listed on the left side of the Google Analytics 4 interface.

To conclude, Google Analytics 4 is a powerful upgrade to understand the business and customers with accurate data and analytics. Migration from Universal Analytics to GA4 can be an improved edge for a better online presence.
