New Smartphone battery takes just 30 seconds to charge

Tel Aviv-based StoreDot have developed a super-fast charging Battery that can store a higher charge than any other Smartphone in existence, in effect acting like a super-dense sponge to soak up power and then retain it. This new battery looks to charge a phone to ‘more than adequate usage’ (we would estimate over 50%) in just 30 seconds.

The new Samsung Galaxy S6 currently features a ‘super-charging’ function that gives you 4 hours of battery from just 10 minutes of charge, however things looks to get even better if Tel-Aviv get their technology in to more handsets (including Samsung, who have allowed them to test the function on their handsets).

We’ve all had those Eastenders-type moments when we run out of battery at a pivotal moment when using our phones. Then when we’re desperate to get some charge, it feels like it takes longer than ever before just to get that 1%! Whether it be down to a wimpy battery on a particular model or our own laziness or forgetfulness to charge, battery issues are one of the main pet hates of the modern Mobile Phone user.

The company who are developing the product are being financially backed by Chelsea FC owner, Roman Abramovich and the innovation is based around the creation of "nanodots", which are a form of bio-organic peptide molecules.

Nanodots let batteries absorb and retain power more effectively and this revolution may benefit the push of the electric car as well as your average mobile phone users.
At present the project is in the developing stages and thus there are no immediate plans for commercial use any time soon. Having said that though, Myersdorf have said that a fast-charge phone

would cost “between around £65-£95 more than current models” – so the release of Superfast Charging batteries could come in the next two years.
