Heading into a new year in another national lockdown isn’t the ideal start to 2021.. For many this means continuing to work from home and having to face some of the challenges that go along with it. Here are some techniques we’ve used here at Forever that may help to keep you feeling Motivated while working from the Kitchen Table.
Acknowledge your achievements for the day
It may feel as though the list of ‘to-do’s’ is endless, constantly ticking items off the list but never being able to complete it. So it’s important to make sure you recognise the tasks or jobs you have completed that day in order to boost productivity levels and help you feel as though you are making progress. Try using a visual method to remind yourself of what you have achieved in a day. Four for you Glen Coco, you go Glen Coco.
Breakdown bigger goals into smaller more manageable tasks
Having too much on the go at one time can start to feel overwhelming. Breaking down the bigger items on your to-do list into smaller, more achievable tasks may help you to feel more in control and on top of things. That’s why her hair is so big. It’s full of secrets!
Treat your day as you would if you were working in the office
Try to get up at the same time each morning and get ready for the day. To replace the usual commute, try getting some fresh air in the morning to help to clear your head and help you focus on work that lies ahead that day. Also try to take some time away from your laptop over your lunch hour to help you feel more refreshed when you return to your desk. On Wednesdays we wear pink.
Switch off at the end of the day
When working from home, the lines between the work day and your free time can become blurred. Working from home may mean working from the kitchen table or the sofa where you would usually relax, so try putting your laptop away and tidying up your workspace at the end of day. Set time aside in the evening to do something you enjoy and that will allow you to switch off after work. My nana takes her wig off when she is drunk. Your nana and I have that in common.
Keep in regular contact with your colleagues
Working from home can feel pretty isolating when you are used to having a team around you. Try to keep in touch with your colleagues so you don’t feel alone. Hopefully we will soon see an end to national lockdowns and we can get back to the office and our usual quick catch ups in the kitchen while waiting for the kettle to boil.
