MYSURU: 2 Dalit activists who asked a taluk administrative mind the Procession of a neighborhood deity be obtained through their colony through Dasara were hauled up and asked to pay up Rs 60,000 at penalty at Chamarajanagar district Yalandur taluk on Thursday, reports BK Lakshmikantha.
Both vowed family jewellery and forced the payment prior to dusk. But once they whined, the tahsildar held a meeting on Monday and ordered return of the handsome amount to the duo.
Resources stated Yalandur talsildar Sudharshan called a meeting of leaders in 13 communities in Dalit-majority Honnur village on Thursday to talk about the procession path of Sri Chamundeshwari automobile festival included in Dasara festivities on the afternoon of Vijayadashami. Dalit daily-wage employees Ningaraju and Shankar Murthy asked the tahsildar to enable the procession to pass by means of their colony on the floor the temple is conducted from the muzrai division and belongs to all.
Dalits form 80percent of the village inhabitants as well as other communities 20%. The Dasara procession hasn’t been taken throughout the Dalit colony, and it had been for the very first time that the petition was made to modify the course this season. Ningaraju is a part of the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti and Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha.
The petition angered the villagers, who accused Ningaraju and Shankar Murthy of violating centuries-old tradition. They made a decision to slap a penalty of Rs 50,101 on Ningaraju and Rs 10,101 on Shankara Murthy, also ordered them to pay the fine which very day.
The duo vowed jewellery of the relatives and paid the sum in hours. They fulfilled the Yalandur tahsildhar on Saturday and lodged a complaint with authorities.
On Monday, the tahsildar referred to as a peace assembly where it had been resolved to return the cash to the duo and produce no modification to the procession route.
Kollegal MLA N Mahesh advised TOI it is incorrect to inflict penalty on villagers, which can be another kind of untouchability. “It shouldn’t have occurred. It is unfortunate that one of people who chose to slap the punishment comprised Scheduled Caste leaders,” he further added.
