A Simple Guide to Writing Online using Keywords

You have set up your website/blog, written a couple of articles Free Keyword Tool

and sat back waiting for the stampede of customers eager to read your content. The silence is deafening.

So you decide to do some research on how to get people to your web pages and you discover that there is really no shortcut to getting traffic to your pages. You can buy traffic but once you stop paying for that traffic it all dries up.

There are different ways of getting traffic to your web pages but this article will be concentrating mainly on the use of Keywords.

The solution? Organic traffic. This is when people type a query into a search engine, mostly Google, and your web page is listed in the results of that search. They then click through to your web page. It is more lucrative to be listed on the first ten pages.

The best way to get organic traffic is to write engaging, informative, and useful articles on a regular basis.

There are some basic steps to doing this.

First think of what niche market you are targeting. A Niche market is a specialized market for a particular product or service. So for example, a niche market can be people approaching retirement or the unemployed who might want to set up an online business.

Now that you have decided on your niche market the next step is to find appropriate keywords to use in your article. There are several tools you can use to do this which I will cover later on in this article. But first a short definition of a Keyword.

What is a Keyword?

A keyword, from an SEO perspective, is a word or phrase that informs the search engines about the content of a web page. When someone makes a query through a search engine like Google the search engine can match the relevant page to that search. To make this happen the keywords are included in a pages metadata.

Examples of keywords are;

  • Build an online business.
  • How to earn while you learn.
  • How to bake a cake.
  • Book a flight

To find the most effective keyword you need a keyword tool. There are several keyword tools but this article will focus on one of them. I personally use this tool and can vouch for its effectiveness.

Keyword Taboos

There are practices that used to take place in the past that are complete no-nos these days. They are liable to get you in trouble and will have a negative impact on your web pages.

Keyword Stuffing – Also known as spamdexing and keyword loading. This where repeating keywords are inserted with the input type=’hidden’ field meta tag. This has the effect of making the keyword invisible to the customer but it is still scanned by the search engines.

Invisible Keyword Stuffing – This done by making the text in the body of the page the same color as the background. This makes the text invisible to the customer until it is highlighted.

Both these practices are aimed at conning the search engines into ranking the web page faster and higher.

Next this article will cover the issue of keyword density.

Keyword Density

This is about the number of times a keyword occurs in an article compared with the number of words in the article. It is expressed as a percentage.

If a key is used 20 times in an article and the total number of words in the article is 200 then the keyword density is said to be 10%.

It is the best practice to keep the keyword density to about 1.5-2%.

Keywords should be used in Headings, Permalinks, Meta title, Start and end of the article. For images use the target keyword as anchor text.

In conclusion the best way to get traffic to your pages is to write helpful, engaging and useful articles. Keyword stuffing will bring nothing but damage to your reputation and integrity.
