Asian Games 2018: India’s latest sprint sensation Hima Das, who has been disqualified from the 200-meter semi-finals at Jakarta on Wednesday, blamed comments by few people and media pressure back in her home.
The 18 years old athlete was disqualified due to a false start in the 200-meter event after winning silver in 400 m. However, in the evening, She bagged another silver as part of India’ 4×400 mixed relay team.
In a Facebook Live video that posted after both events, the athlete said in Assamese that she was under tremendous pressure from her home state Assam. Without naming two individuals who were particularly responsible for trying to follow her every time. These are the reasons for her disqualification.
She also requested all not to put pressure on the athletes with her folded hand and create any controversy. She said that there was a lot of pressure on her and some comments really hurt her. She also said that she would try to forget these things.

It is to be noted local Assamese News Channels were trying to exaggerate her achievements. In fact, one local news Channel editor had called her in WhatsApp number in the night and shown her excited relatives and neighbors who assembled at her courtyard back in the home at Dhing- her birthplace.

These news channels were even telecasting direct about people’s reaction, prayer meetings and trivial gossips like a discussion about her.
A news clip aired by a local news channel before her 200-meter event said that urine sample collected from Hima and a possible conspiracy has been hatched to implicate her in a doping case may have put pressure on her.
Her coach Nipon Das said that she is hurt by what has happened and he also requests everyone to keep blessing her and encourage her in a positive way. He also posted his comment in the video on facebook.
A popular Assamese singer, number of media personnel, her fans and Government officials from Assam landed in Jakarta to cover her event and trying to click photos with her. The incessant interviews and demand on her time by these people may have also affected her performance.
After her reaction netizens are replete with comments blaming those people and media. Within minutes of the release of her video, thousands of people viewed it.
