Venkaiah Naidu rejects impeachment notice against CJI Dipak Misra

In a major jolt to cheap political intentions of Congress, the Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu, who is also the Rajya Sabha Chairman, rejected the notice to impeach the Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra. The Rajya Sabha Chairman remarked, “Having considered the material contained in the notice of motion and reflected upon the inputs received in my interaction with legal luminaries and constitutional experts, I am of the firm opinion that the notice of the motion does not deserve to be admitted. Accordingly, I refuse to admit a notice of motion.

I have applied my mind to all five changes made out in impeachment motion and examined all annexed documents. All facts are stated in motion don’t make out a case which can lead any reasonable mind to conclude that CJI on these facts can be ever held guilty of misbehaviour.”

Meanwhile, the opposition parties backed by Congress are keen to continue the effort and it seems that Rahul Gandhi is sure to take this matter to the Supreme Court of India. Previously 64 MPs belonging to 7 political parties signed the notice for impeachment proceedings against the CJI.

Incidentally, the Supreme Court Judges including Chief Justice Dipak Misra held a brief meeting on the issue of impeachment notice. Let’s not forget the fact that as per law, Chief Justice of India can be impeached only on the grounds of proved misbehaviour or incapacity.

There is no denying the fact that Congress is playing the dirty game right now especially after the Justice Loya murder case verdict. Accusing the Chief Justice of India, for abusing his position as ‘master of the roaster’ is actually a case of revenge petition, as mentioned by Union Minister Arun Jaitley.

If the opposition parties at all proceed to Supreme Court, Congress may end up facing bigger embarrassment in near future.
