In a tragic incident, a fully loaded bus hit the railing of a bridge and Fell into the river in Murshidabad district of West Bengal in the morning today. The bus was traveling from Nadia to Malda and it fell into the river near Daulatabad. Locals reacted on time and took small boats to rescue the passengers.
By the time Police reached the place, a large group of people has gathered at the site of the incident. The people were visibly angered as the Police arrived late to the site of the accident. People have overturned the Police vehicles.
Some people pelted stones on the fire engine also. Even the angered mob lit fire to two police vehicles. Ultimately, the Police had to use tear gas to disperse the mob from that place.
Five people have been rescued initially by the local people. They said that the bus driver was talking on the phone while driving and the bus lost control at one place. It hit the railing of the bridge and fell down into the river before it sank.
Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee gave instructions to State Transport Minister Subhendu Adhikari and Transport Secretary to visit the site of the accident. They left to the spot in a helicopter. It is not yet known how many people were on the bus when it fell into the river.
