Rajasthan is all set to conduct polling in two parliamentary seats and an assembly state today. These by-elections are going to be a trial run for the upcoming assembly elections in the state. These elections will be a test to the Vasundara Raje led Rajasthan government. The elections are going to take place for a parliament seat in Ajmer and Alwar, assembly seat of Mandalgarh.
Coincidentally, the elections came just four days after the release of the controversial Film ‘Padmavaat.’ This film supposedly has an impact on the voting, especially in Ajmer constituency.
Rajputs have been quite serious on the state government for allowing the screening of this film which they felt hurt their sentiments and showed the Rajput princess ‘Padmavati’ in poor light. There are around two lakhs Rajputs among the voters in Ajmer. They are believed to have decided to vote against BJP protesting the release of the film.
The three seats which are going for by-elections today belong to BJP. They fell vacant due to the death of the concerned lawmakers. BJP has taken special care to assure a win in this by-election as there is opposition towards the party due to the controversy of the film.
BJP fielded its senior leaders such as State’s Labour Minister Jaswant Singh Yadav, Former Union Minister Sanwarlal’s son Ramswaroop Lamba etc. The result of this by-election will show the intention of the people of the state towards the ruling government of BJP.
