The 69th Republic Day celebration in India was peaceful overall. Interestingly there wasn’t any incident of disturbance in Kashmir. Clashes and curfew in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj was the only blip other than low-intensity explosions in Assam. In UP’s Kasganj, a 16-year-old boy was killed in clashes after stone pelting incidents at motorcycle rally by VHP and ABVP supporters created much furor.
Curfew has been imposed in the particular area. On the other hand, Assam’s Tinsukia district was hit by three low-intensity explosions and as far as primary investigations are concerned, the ULFA members are behind it. In Kashmir, all Republic Day programmes were uneventful and went off without any possible hiccup.
