The Congress Government of the Karnataka state is said to be all set to give a hike to its state employees from the coming month. The Government is planning to implement a hike of 24 to 30% hike in the salaries of all the government employees. This hike will benefit around 6.2 lakh employees and pensioners.
Further, the state government has also agreed to give holiday on alternative Saturdays against the demand for a five-day week. There have been several demands from the state government employees to give salaries on par with the central government and make only five working days a week.
Before this announcement, the state employees were working for six days a week, excluding a holiday on second Saturday of the month. At present, they will get a holiday on the second and fourth Saturdays similar to the holidays given to nationalized bank employees.
The Government said that the working hours on the first and third Saturday will be increased a little to compensate the loss of working hours on the fourth Saturday.
Karnataka CM Siddharamaiah has appointed a committee headed by a retired IAS officer MR Srinivasa Murthy to give recommendations on the increase in salaries. The committee has prepared its report and is going to hand over it to the CM before the deadline of January 31.
