Bala Vikasa NGO Founders Honored With “Meritorious Service Decoration”

Bala Vikasa founders Mrs. Bala Theresa Singareddy (Gingras) and Mr. Andre Gingras jointly received a prestigious national award “Meritorious Service Decoration” from Governor General of Canada Ms. Julie Payette recognizing their dedicated social service which impacted lives of over 4 million rural poor covering 6000 villages in India over the past four decades.

Mrs. Bala Theresa Singareddy native of Reddypalem, Warangal, Telangana Married to a French Canadian Mr. Andre Gingras 48 years ago and moved to Canada. 40 years ago the couple founded a charity organization SOPAR in Canada and 26 years ago Bala Vikasa in India. Through these two organizations they have supported 800 water plants, 6500 bore well, 450 overhead tanks, 840 tanks desilted, 220,000 women and 15000 widows empowered, 1600 orphans supported for their education, 400 government schools improved, promoting model villages, organic farming.

Bala Vikasa is known for innovating development initiatives and create models for NGOs and governments. Bala Vikasa is also organizing capacity building programs for development professionals coming from 68 countries across the globe through its People Development Training Center. Bala Vikasa also established Bala Vikasa International Center (BVIC) in Hyderabad to strengthen the CSR initiatives of corporate companies and also incubate social entrepreneurs from across the country. The community development projects of Bala Vikasa are expanded to Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharastra, Karnataka, and Chhattisgarh.

During a press meet organized at Bala Vikasa headquarters in Warangal, Mr. Shoury Reddy informed the details of the award to Bala Vikasa Founders. Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, presented the Meritorious Service Decorations (Civil Division) to 42 recipients from various sectors across Canada on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., during a ceremony at Rideau Hall, Ottawa. On this occasion, the Governor General presented 19 Meritorious Service Crosses and 23 Meritorious Service Medals. Mrs. Bala Theresa Gingras and Mr. Andre Received the Meritorious Service Cross category.

The Meritorious Service Decorations were established to recognize the extraordinary people who make Canada proud. Their acts are often innovative, set an example or model for others to follow, or respond to a particular challenge faced by a community. The best candidates are those who inspire others through their motivation to find solutions to specific and pressing needs or provide an important service to their community or country.

Bala Vikasa members have gathered at headquarters and celebrated the achievement of the award by its founders. Hearing the news thousands of beneficiaries in hundreds of villagers across Telugu states are preparing to celebrate the achievement of Bala Vikasa Founders.
